United Repair Centre, Fashion-Enter, Patagonia open London repair centre

United Repair Centre London (URC London), which has just opened in Haringey, brings together social impact companies United Repair Centre, Fashion-Enter and outdoor clothing brand Patagonia.It will employ and train people who have challenges finding employment in high-quality clothing repairs with an objective to “transform the apparel industry for the better”.

Haringey-based garment production company Fashion-Enter is partnering with URC London operating out of its existing facility and training the team in technical repairs.It will initially provide repairs for Patagonia’s UK-based customers, with three additional brands lined up to join the facility within the next 12 months, and space for more partners.The opening follows the success of the first United Repair Centre, launched in Amsterdam in 2022, as the result of collaboration between Makers Unite, Amsterdam Economic Board and Patagonia. The Amsterdam unit currently handles 30,000 repairs a year from brands such as Decathlon, Lululemon and Patagonia.URC London says it also targets a capacity to perform 30,000 repairs a year by 2025.Thami Schweichler, founder and CEO of URC, said: “The apparel industry has a bad reputation for the harms inflicted on the environment, and the people who make our clothes – but it doesn’t have to be this way. UK footfall stays weak, consumers take -no-splurge- approach

Footfall to non-food retail stores picked up in March with a rise of 1.4% being much better than the fall of 6% a year ago. But this year’s rise didn’t come anywhere close to making up for the previous year’s decline. And given that March 2018 had been dented by heavy snow that kept shoppers at home, while recent weeks have seen milder weather, the March 2019 performance wasn’t very encouraging.Specialist tracking firm Springboard said the three-month average is for a decline of 0.3%, a bit better than the six-month and 12-month average drops of 1.4%.
